Aileen Getty was born and raised in Italy and has called Los Angeles home for the past 25 years.
Aileen has brought her own experience with life’s challenges into her community by engaging her spirit, energy, knowledge, time, and resources in the struggle against HIV/AIDS, addiction, mental illness, and homelessness. Aileen’s compassion for individuals living in challenging circumstances is at the center of her life and is a significant focus within the Aileen Getty Foundation.
In 2005, Aileen also founded Gettlove, a nonprofit organization created to acknowledge, house and sustain housing for numerous homeless individuals who are part of the Hollywood community.
Aileen is a Trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), an Ambassador to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, and an Advisory Board Member of the YaLa Academy. She serves on several local nonprofit boards including Gettlove, Friends of the Hollywood Central Park, and the Underground Museum.
Aileen is also a partner in Sprout Restaurant Group which has brought Los Angeles some of its most popular restaurants including Bestia and Republique.
No act of kindness, no matter how small, was ever wasted. -Aesop
The Aileen Getty Foundation continually pursues “next practices” that go beyond existing approaches, and move the needle in a way that will truly change our communities. We believe that creating a sense of belonging will be instrumental in assuring that we continue to make strides in advancing quality of life for every member of our community.
The Aileen Getty Foundation seeks to bring kindness, a sense of inclusion, and a willingness to create empathetic, reciprocal relationships into everything we do. Our aim is to go beyond traditional boundaries and provider-beneficiary relationships to ensure that each individual has a sense that he or she is genuinely accepted, cared for, and loved. The projects we fund and the partnerships we join are practical, innovative, and joyful ways of living this out.
The Aileen Getty Foundation invests in projects in Los Angeles and around the world. A few of our special grantees are highlighted below.
